praxis type family and materials
a graduate-level study in “visualizing a local” – providing visual identity for whatever might constitute a “local” organization in today’s globalized world. the result is an open and flexibile identifying tool for a group naturally suspect of authority and top-down organization – anarchists. a four-weight typeface family was designed to reflect as much as possible the anarchist values of autonomy, self organization, mutual aid, social individualism, and self government. this was done by questioning everything from the systematic nature of alphabet construction to the use of capitals; from designer/client relationships to production and distribution. through the use of layered stencils for public communication, the type family is meant to enable a rich praxis.
